Purpose

To direct and manage the financial and HR operations for the Ransom Center, overseeing and providing leadership for all aspects of business and HR operations, including complex accounting and financial and budgetary planning and operations. Develop and streamline initiatives, procedures, processes, and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic oversight and management of the Business and Human Resource Office and staff . Ensures proper training of staff and compliance for all business and HR operations, including related policies, procedures, and proper processing and payment of the Center's professional, classified, and student employees. Innovate tools and systems in response to the Center's needs.
  • Collaborates with the Human Resource Coordinator on the annual appraisal and merit process. Analyze compensation data for fair, equitable and competitive compensation and rewards. Advises the Director on workforce planning and human resource budgeting.
  • Executes annual representation letter, performs account certification and review of balances for Center, prepares semi-annual analysis of accounts to UT Budget Office and University Development Office, and assists Principal Investigators with financial, budgetary and compliance matters for federal, state, or privately-funded grants as needed. Serves as liaison with Provost's Office, Budget Office, Office of Accounting, Endowment Compliance and other UT administrative offices.
  • Maintains responsibility for developing, maintaining and overseeing sound fiscal policies for the Center. Implements business practices to improve and maintain the effectiveness of unit operations and ensure timeliness and accuracy in all transactions. Ensures a strong system of internal controls and compliance with university policies and procedures and state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Oversees all business functions for the Center including accounting, purchasing, payables, and cash management in accordance with applicable regulations, policies, and procedures. Monitors and maintains accurate and up-to-date budgets and accounts for appropriated funds, endowments, gifts, grants, and revenue. Prepares quarterly and annual financial and budget reports, including endowments.
  • Oversees budget planning, forecasting and reporting for all Ransom Center units and activities. Reviews and approves account requests, cash advances, authorization for professional services, fellowship payments, funds transfers, and business contracts. Serves as designated final approver for all financial documents, voucher payments, and RTA travel documents for the Center.
  • Provides financial information and guidance to and works with the Center's Director and Associate Directors on annual and long-range budget planning. Assists in implementing short and long range strategies and financial plans in support of departmental goals.
  • Recommends and implements cost savings measures, provides fiscal advice to the Director. Serves as a member of the Center's leadership team.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
    • Six or more years of successful business management experience to include three years of supervisory experience with evidence of increasing professional advancement and growth.
    • Attention to detail and strong communication skills required.
      Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

      Preferred Qualifications
      • Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting.
      • More than six years of successful business management experience, preferably in higher education or in the cultural sector.
      • Certification as a Public Accountant (CPA).
      • Knowledge of University of Texas policies, procedures, and systems.
      • Ability to resolve complex financial and budgetary issues, to write financial reports and to present financial data.
      • Demonstrated ability to supervise and to work well with staff and with other University departments.
        Salary Range

        $87,000 + depending on qualifications

            Employment Eligibility:
            Regular staff who have been employed in their current position for the last six continuous months are eligible for openings being recruited for through University-Wide or Open Recruiting, to include both promotional opportunities and lateral transfers.             Retirement Plan Eligibility:
            The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
