healthcare change.POSITION PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe Director
of the Office of Research & Sponsored Projects (DORSP) works
closely with the Vice President of Academic Administration and
Provost in providing research leadership and development
opportunities within the University. The DORSP nurtures quality
research, scholarship, sponsored projects and creative activity by
university faculty, staff, and students in support of the
University's mission, and promotes and enhances the University's
contribution to clinical inquiry.General duties include mentoring
faculty and students in developing their research or scholarly
agendas, providing guidance in high-caliber and ethical research
processes, providing pre- and post-award support across the
university, and serving as a liaison between faculty, students, the
RMUoHP academic administration, the RMUoHP Foundation, and internal
or external funding agencies to develop and enhance the
University's research strategic vision.The DORSP will grow and
maintain a well-staffed and active research laboratory to include
current technology and equipment for conducting research in
exercise science, kinesiology and other allied health or
rehabilitation practices.Additionally, the DORSP, or designee, will
provide mentorship and serve on dissertation committees for
students in the relevant areas of scholarship, and serve as a
consultant for all PhD students as appropriate. The DORSP also
serves as a faculty member in the PhD program.The DORSP will also
participate in assessment and continuous improvement activities
related to research activities within the university. -The DORSP
develops and implements strategic plans for the scope, direction,
administration and resources for the research space and the future
research directions of the ORSP.1. General Responsibilities
- Supports the University's mission, promotes and enhances the
University's contribution to clinical inquiry and the reputation of
the University through the University's research agenda.
- Assists university faculty and students with research.
- Assists, -consults, and facilitates the strategic direction for
scholarship and research within and across various academic -degree
programs including continuous improvement strategies regarding
scholarship infrastructure and services.
- Serves as the university's pre- and post-award liaison and
makes recommendations to RMUoHP administration regarding faculty or
student research practices and award operations.
- Assists in creation and implementation of an ORSP scholarly
research program, including:
- Develops an active, on-the-ground research presence and culture
of research.
- Conducts research utilizing the opportunities & resources at
the university's pro-bono clinics.
- Promotes and facilitates research activities including
inter-professional, collaborative research in areas related to the
strengths of the university programs.
- Leads and assists in the development and supervision of
research projects for Research Assistants and other students.

- Serves as thesis/dissertation committee chairperson or member
as deemed appropriate and in collaboration with academic
programs.
- Identifies and pursues grant opportunities in partnership with
faculty, students and other internal or external stakeholders.

- Coordinates and oversees Academic Research Committee (ARC)
processes. The ARC provides regular input related to the following
tasks: -
- Planning of the Annual RMUoHP symposium including faculty and
student research presentations and 'expert' speaker series.
- Faculty training webinars related to research and
scholarship.
- Independent review of RMUoHP internal faculty and student
grants.
- Oversees faculty research development and assessment review
processes. -
- Develops faculty development activities related to the research
process (e.g., resource guides, training, webinars, brown bag
lunches, etc.) -
- Authors and works with others to develop publications under the
auspices of RMUoHP.
- Works collaboratively with others to seek out and foster
collaborative research opportunities between faculty and
students.
- Establishes consistent and widespread research connections and
networks with local universities and other organizations.
- Becomes a member of the local and regional research
organizations, boards, committees and groups. Attends and
contributes to those organizations to increase awareness of RMUoHP
and seek collaborative research opportunities for faculty and
students.
- Introduces and connects faculty with the local and regional
research network.
- Develops mutually beneficial linkage, including among
residential and post-professional programs, medical industries, and
other programs in an effort to develop collaborative research
partnerships.
- Available as a consultant to the research component of all
degree programs.
- Reviews and consults on proposals for extramural funding and
the acceptance of sponsored projects for research, training, and
services, as well as monitors compliance with various agency
-guidelines.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and PIs to match interests
with available funding opportunities, review Requests for Funding
Applications, and communicate with grant management specialists
across agencies to ensure that applications meet requirements.
- Explores and submits sponsored projects for own research and
assists faculty in pursuing their own extramural funding.
- Monitors availability and suitability of available funding from
external agencies. Assists faculty in grant writing and
submissions.
- Evaluates, consults, and educates on research tools/equipment
and emerging technologies, including relevant research software to
support research among university constituents.
- Coordinates with Institutional Review Board (IRB) to ensure
that research activities related to ORSP adhere to IRB rules and
guidelines.
- Leads from the front in creating and developing group research
projects.
- Coordinates and works with other relevant university
employees.
- Engages, connects, develops rapport and liaises with faculty on
a consistent basis to remove the fear and challenges involved in
research engagement.
- Organizes and offers training and workshop events that promote
the elevation of research-related skills and the evolution of new
research ideas and collaborations in collaboration with the Faculty
Development Committee. -
- Serves as the -Chair -of the Academic Research Committee
(ARC).3. Community -
- In coordination with the Director of the RMUoHP Foundation,
networks and connects with local/regional donors and foundations to
secure donations for student and faculty research endeavors.
- Works with the EVPAA/Provost in identifying and establishing
liaisons with corporations and foundations that will provide
support for applied research at the University.
- Provides external agencies, corporations, and foundations with
information on the research, training, and service capabilities of
the University.4. Administrative
- Oversees operations in ORSP including:
- Budget
- Employees and Research Assistants
- Equipment/Inventory
- Short- and -Long-Term Planning
- Prepares and develops status reports for faculty and student
publications. -
- Assists with electronic research administration processes and
policies.
- Manages information systems including relevant pages on the
rm.edu website. -5. Other Requirements
- Teaches, as appropriate, in area(s) of expertise.
- Actively participates in University governance as
assigned.
- Attends official University events as applicable.
- Assume an active personal research agenda in area(s) of
expertise.
- Contributes to the overall success of the Office of Research
Administration by performing all other duties and responsibilities
as assigned.POSITION QUALIFICATIONSLocationOn-site, at the RMUoHP
campus in Provo, Utah.Education/Certification:An earned doctorate,
preferably in a health-related discipline.Certification in Research
Administration preferred.Required Knowledge:The DORSP should
demonstrate a strong research agenda and knowledge of grant options
related to the disciplines of the University.Experience Required:A
research record meriting appointment as a full professor in an
academic department, and research mentoring experience in an
academic setting.Minimum of 2-5 years of research administration or
related experience.Skills/Abilities:The DORSP must have a strong
commitment to academic excellence and an ability to work with
diverse constituencies. Should demonstrate excellent interpersonal,
oral and written communication skills, and a collaborative approach
