Job Summary
Manages construction open-shop craft and Subcontractor work
activities associated with the construction of substation projects.
Responsible for the development and maintenance of Construction
Procedures associated with HVDC Construction activities.
Participates in project proposals, including the estimate
development for Substation Construction. Involved in training and
mentoring site supervision and craft associated with work
activities. May lead one or more construction projects
simultaneously. Experience in Substation Construction including
safe working practices associated with working on or near exposed
energized electrical equipment. Ensures schedule and project
expectations are clearly defined to Subcontractors and craft
supervision. Ensures schedule requirements are communicated to all
levels of craft discipline. Coordinates technical interpretation of
technical requirements and specifications. Provides technical data
and information as required to subcontractor supervision or
construction engineers. Ensures compliance by subcontractor and
workforce to all standards, procedures and contractual commitments
within the bounds of all applicable policies. #LI-KC1

Key Responsibilities
Provides technical guidance to Engineering and Construction
regarding projects and disciplines. Quality/Continuous Improvement:
Independently applies knowledge and ensures compliance with Black
and Veatch quality program. Establishes related processes and
promotes a culture that is conducive to quality. Supports
continuous improvement and change management efforts. Engineering
Production: Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables
for multiple or mega projects. Performs complex research and
develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection
to Engineering and Construction.Manages assigned budget, schedule,
and quality requirementsleading production teams; responsible for
technical aspects of projects as assigned. Establishes work plan to
be applied to a given project. Project Coordination: Actively
coordinates wit Communicates client interests and drivers to
project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these
concerns in the performance of the work on complex projects.
Typically provides support to business development, engineering or
pursuit activities. Knowledge Sharing, Innovation and Technology:
Serves as a technical specialist and has knowledge and skill set to
provide consultation and guidance to project teams in a particular
practice area. Provides and assist site engineering and
construction and engineering teams the means, methods, and staffing
to support construction of Substation. Read and review project
blueprints and structural specifications to determine dimensions of
structure or system and material requirements. Work with
construction and engineering supervisor to determine project
details such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and
evaluation of field conditions. Works with Engineering and EH&S
group to develop and maintain safety program through engineering
plans associated with Construction activities. Develops and
maintains Construction standards and quality programs associated
with the Construction of HVDC work.Leads and assists in design
constructability reviews along with review of design maps, graphs,
square footage availability and diagrams. Calculate dimensions,
square footage, profile and component specifications, and material
quantities, using calculator or computer. Supports subcontract
developments for projects as needed. Assists site team in resolving
problems and reports on issues related to drawings and information,
material analysis, schedule, quality, quantity tracking, cost
reporting, and safety.Reviews all installed quantity reports, and
progress payment request. Develops a stable working relationship
with Client and assigned subcontractor(s).Develops and distributes
a Job Hazard Analysis for major erection packages within scope.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct hire Substation construction experience. HVDC experience.
Experience with Outage Plans within construction. Bachelor's degree
in construction or engineering and Craft experience and above
preferred. Should have 3+ years of experience as Construction
Manager level or above. Should have 8+ years with a degree or 14+
years without degree, of Substation experience. Knowledge of
project budget process and tools. Knowledge of department budget
process and tools. Knowledge of Project controls. Risk
assessment/management. Administrative policies and procedures.
Construction Project Management Systems. Conceptual planning
ability. Conflict management skills. Leadership ability (team
building, coaching, mentoring, change management, advising).
Multi-tasking ability (prioritize, organize, schedule work).
Presentation skills. Problem solving skills (identify, analyze,
research, evaluate, resolve). Project management skills.
Communication and meeting skills. Time reporting systems. Expense
reporting policies and procedures. Bilingual/Spanish speaking is
preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in construction, engineering, or related field
preferred, or relevant field experience.
14+ years construction supervisory experience required, with at
least 3 years of previous construction manager experience.
OSHA Training
All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding
requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the
following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor
vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and
regulations.
