Technical teams focus is to solve various business systems and applications problems for customers, onsite engineering personnel and Authorized Service Providers on standard, specialized or complex systems.The Senior Vertica Technical Support Engineer will: Troubleshoot and assist customers on product issues via email, telephone, CRM and remote sessionAnalyze, diagnose, and resolve complex technical issues related to Vertica and associated products in multi-tiered application environments using logs, reproduction, technical documentation and know-howPresent technical trouble-shooting and best practice training to peers and customersProvide proactive assistance to customers in order to avoid or reduce problem occurrenceKeep detailed logs for each customer interaction in case management toolsCollaborate with cross functional teams to resolve customer issues, advocate product enhancements, bug fixes, provide feedback on important features, product gaps and supportability mattersDevelop, document, and publish best practice methods, knowledgebase articles and solutionsParticipate in after hours and/or holiday emergency on call coverageAbility to act as a mentor and guide for other employees. Ability to provide direction and guidance for process improvements.Articulate clearly and accurately in explaining recommendations and resolutions to customersRepresent the company in a face to face customer location visit, industry conference/trade show, vendor meeting, etc.Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fields, or equivalent experience2-3 years of work experience in relevant technologies and customer environmentsRelevant industry qualification where applicableKnowledge and Skills:Technical knowledge in Database Administration, database engineering, big data analytics and similar technologiesAdvanced Software and hardware knowledge of computing, storage and peripheral devicesExperience with supporting OS (primarily Linux), application servers (Apache Tomcat, IIS, WebSphere)Experience with database technologies such as MySQL, MS SQL, Oracle and SQL queriesKnowledge of network and web related protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, LDAP, HTTP, HTTPS), firewalls, proxies, web serversExcellent verbal and written communication skills in language to be supportedAdvanced troubleshooting skills in a technical environmentExcellent analytical and problem solving skillsAdvanced Software and hardware knowledge of computing, storage and peripheral devicesAdvanced proficiency with case management databases and toolsSuperior customer service skillsPhone and remote support experience.
