Job Description:

POSITION PROFILEUnder general supervision of the Patrol Division performs a variety of duties related to animal control of the county. Animal control officers are responsible for capturing, rescuing, or impounding dangerous, stray animals and/or livestock while enforcing animal licensing laws and county/city ordinances. Will provide investigations to cases of animal cruelty and provide expert testimony in court when necessary. Performs other related duties of animal control including euthanasia of any animal needing to be put down in a sensitive and humane manner. Assist patrol officers with the enforcement of state laws and county codes when needed.GOALSEnforce laws and ordinances and procedures common to law enforcementConducts presence and detection patrols designed to detect and deter crime. notes suspicious activity in the area and takes action as necessary. To keep the peace ensuring safety from animal problems within the communities of Duchesne County.To provide a safe environment to the community and visitors of Duchesne County.To maintain county, office, and personal integrity.To exemplify the constitutionality of law enforcement and protecting the rights of others.To reduce office and countywide liabilities though knowledge and practices of the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office and County Policy and Procedures associated with Animal Control Officer Functions.To ensure work performance, effective time management practices, and attention to detail. To articulate and convey information accurately and appropriately to staff and the public whether in written or verbal form.LICENSE AND CERTIFICATIONSMust have a current and valid Utah Driver License; and Special Function Officer (SFO) Certification issued by the Utah Peace Officer and Standard Training (POST); and Annual qualification of the use of office-issued firearms; lethal and non-lethal weapons.Must complete 40 hours of POST accredited hours of training per year to maintain valid certification through the Utah Peace Office and Standard Training (POST)Valid Pharmacy-E License through Department of Professional License (DOPL) CPR certification and re-certification as required
