Job Description:

In conjunction with Missionary Department product managers and MTC Training and Technology, the Language Curriculum Manager II contributes to the design, development, and evaluation of instructional products and systems for Missionary Training Centers across the world; Manages the successful pilot testing, implementation of, and subsequent adjustments to curriculum resources used to train missionaries in all MTCs. This is a temporary position lasting up to two years. Essential Functions Provide strategies for new curriculum and associated products such as a revised missionary materials or technology driven resources. Manage and conduct multiple and complex ongoing pilot tests in order to provide the data needed to influence curriculum innovations. Collaborate with Research and Evaluation, Training, Operations, and Missionary Department Product Managers in this effort. Design and select teaching methods, instructional approaches, and training tools (computer, Internet, print, video, etc.) for missionary curriculum. Transfer vision of MTC and Missionary Department leaders to team members. Manage the ongoing operational issues regarding successful implementation of curriculum. This may include minor adjustments to curriculum resources, working with scheduling, conducting MTC teacher training, consulting with Director of IMTCs and channeling information to relevant product managers. Manage projects. Create plans. Identify milestones. Identify resource and budget needs for projects. Provide appropriate documentation to the MTC Director of Curriculum Development. Manage project process resources and funds to successful completion. Coordinate with other divisions within the Missionary Department, other Church departments and non-Church agencies involved in the development or use of instructional products. Provide support for pre-MTC and infield venues as requested by Missionary Department Curriculum division. Lead ad-hoc pilot teams and supervise part-time staff who assist in writing, developing, and implementing curriculum. Train supervisors, administrators, and trainers at MTCs on new products and provide training in missions as assigned. Education/Experience Minimum education/experience required: Bachelor's degree in Instructional Psychology and Technology or a related field PLUS 5 years of experience in 2 or more of the following (OR equivalent combination of both education and experience): Instructional design, development, and evaluation of training systems. Teaching and training. Multimedia, web development, and other learning technologies. Administrative experience including personnel management, budgeting, and strategic planning. Preferred: Master's degree or Ph.D., preferred in Instructional Psychology and Technology, linguistics, or a related field. Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications: Required: At least 2 years of supervisory experience. Fluency in one or more languages in addition to English. Experience in linguistics and language instruction. Excellent technical writing skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Excellent Interpersonal skills. Preferred: Formal project management training. Experience in linguistics and language instruction. Experience in audio/video production. Experience in evaluation, testing and research. Familiarity with the current Technology Assisted Language Learning software. Service as a full-time missionary. Additional Comments Some of the direct and indirect reports indicated above will not show in PeopleSoft as such. They will be rotated in and out of the MTC Training department as new curriculum pilots are tested. However, in action they will be reporting to the Curriculum Manager II. This position reports through the Director of Curriculum Development. This position serves the Provo MTC, international MTCs, and the Missionary Department. Because this position services various clients outside the Provo MTC, some travel may be required. The Managers of Curriculum constitute a creative brain trust of ideas for elevating missionary training (i.e., TALL, computer-based training, effective use of the Internet, other use of technology- and non-technology-related interventions for either proselyting or language learning). This position initiates appropriate communication with Church departments and provides significant support to the training organization at the Provo MTC. As this position directs the work of materials that have use outside of the Missionary Department (such as TALL), it will collaborate effectively with other organizations such as BYU, BYU Pathway Worldwide, Priesthood and Family, and CES. This position must also keep abreast of the latest developments in instruction and technology in order to provide a continual infusion of new ideas and effective (including cost-effective) use of leading-edge instructional technologies.
