Job Title: SMO Retail Manager

Department: Sundance Mountain Outfitters (SMO)

Reports To: SMO Manager, works closely with Director of Operations & Retail Committee

Rate of Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per Hour DOE

Shift: Full Time Year Round

Must be available weekends and holidays


The SMO Retail Manager will be responsible for creating a dynamic retail experience for Sundance guests, while coordinating products that fit with the Sundance vision and brand. SMO Retail Manager must be creative, outgoing, confident and self-motivated to execute the SMO Retail merchandising plan. A professional attitude and appearance are a must.

SMO RETAIL SUPERVISOR ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Create impactful retail displays that fit the SMO dcor and ambiance demonstrating a powerful eye for merchandising.

Keep the retail floor, storage space and area clean, organized, and well stocked.

Effectively cross sell and up-sell customers and train other staff how to do the same.

Share the Sundance story of land preservation and environmental commitment as the occasion arises.

Manage inventory for four locations: Sundance Mountain Outfitters base operation, SMO 2.0, Flyfishing, and Stables.

Be organized and detail oriented to insure accurate inventory counts, invoicing, etc.

Work with IT to insure accurate and up to date POS interaction for all hot keys.

Proficiently use Yellow Dog Software to Create PO's, Receive Product, Generate Invoices, and perform physical inventories.

Oversee quarterly inventory and insure accurate counts.

Assist Manager in the analysis and preparation of the monthly P&L report.

Have a strong eye to recognize and create product plans to determine product with higher turnover rates.

Manage shrinkage by managing theft, expiration dates, and enforcing return policy, exchanges, etc.

Manage the seasonal nature of the business and effectively inventory and store seasonal items in between seasons.

Consistently produce all monthly and quarterly reports on time.

Establish and maintain good relationships with representatives and industry partners.

Act appropriately and with the best interest of Sundance in mind when dealing with reps & sales people.

Watch sales closely and monitor discounts, etc.

Make product recommendations based on sales.

Listen to guest requests and input and implement when appropriate.

Share guest feedback to determine new product selection.

Be actively engaged in managing sales goals.

Assist with managing annual retail budget as it relates to revenue, cost of goods sold, labor and costs.

Responsible for placing of orders for pre-season and in season inventory management.

Ensure all purchases have appropriate approvals.

Assist other departments with meeting their uniform needs.

Be a team player and help out in areas outside of retail responsibilities.

Provide constant leadership and management influence for all SMO staff at all times.

Proficiently operate POS and accurately handle cash.

Be constantly innovative.

Schedule retail staff subject to Manager review of all schedules.

Oversee merchandising, inventory control, and revenue accounting of Sundance logo products at the Sundance Stables and Fly Fishing shop.

Assist SMO Manager with updating training log and assuring staff accountability to all policies and procedures.

Assist SMO Manager with periodic employee reviews and goal setting evaluations.

Assist the Director of the Nordic Center with the placement of Sundance logo merchandise for winter operations as needed.

Be actively engaged with the Retail Committee in developing logo products resort wide.

Support and participate in environmental programs associated with position, for example: minimize waste, recycle, conserve energy, purchase and use sustainable products, educate co-workers/guests on environmental ethic, support vendors with similar environmental ethic, decrease pollution levels, minimize the use of toxic chemicals, restore wild life habitats, and carpool with co-workers to minimize carbon emissions. All employees are invited to participate in environmental or Sundance Preserve sponsored events.


Oversee the operation of retail environment including working with all SMO staff to insure adequate knowledge of product and knowledge of operation. Supervise inventory levels at all times and minimize shrinkage or loss of sales due to lack of product, expiration dates, theft. Implement and enforce return policy, holds and exchanges.

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Complete all applicable paperwork for the above responsibilities and submit to HR in a timely manner

Assume management responsibilities in the absence of SMO Manager.


Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest's impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele. As representatives of Sundance all employees including mangers are expected to be in compliance with the Dress Code determined for his/her department as defined in the job description or follow the standards below.

In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:

All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.

Required to wear nametags at all times while in guest service area.

Clothing must be unwrinkled and clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).

Blue jeans are permitted.

Men's shirts must be tucked in when possible, related to the type of work, lifting bikes, etc.

Appropriate skirt length is from the knee to the ankle.

A tailored fit is required of all clothing.

Tank tops, halter tops tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.

Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females.

Bare midriffs are prohibited.

Proper footwear for your department is required.

Dress sandals are permitted for females. No open toed sandals.

Flip flops are prohibited in all areas.

Tennis shoes are prohibited unless there is a business need (ie: Mtn. Ops.).

Fashion sneakers are allowed within department approved parameters.

If an approved t-shirt is worn, it must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

Sundance logo baseball cap is permitted: beanies are okay. It must be in good condition and have appropriate Sundance logos.

Shorts are appropriate and must be mid-thigh or longer during the summer month and must be approved by manager.
