Job Description:
PURPOSE
This operating procedure establishes and describes the authority,
reporting relationships, duties and responsibilities, and
performance standards of the Draftsman for BODEC/Bruno.
FUNCTIONAL ROLE
The Draftsman's basic function is to develop detailed drawings of
the designs created by the Electrical Engineers. The Draftsman is
also responsible for maintaining the library of past drawings and
maintaining the security and backup of these drawings.
AUTHORITY
The Draftsman reports directly to the Project Engineer.
No positions report directly to the Draftsman.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Required: Degree or certification in drafting from a college or
technical school.
Experience
Prefers above requirement plus three to five years experience as a
Draftsman.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Ability to take designs from engineers and create a drawing that
accurately reflects the design.
Must stay up to date with changes in drafting and design tools and
software in the electrical industry.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret designs, plans, contracts,
technical reports and industry/trade agreements.
Ability to print, email or ship documents in whatever manner the
customer chooses to receive them.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of
concrete variable in situations where only limited standardization
exists.
Ability to work with computer software packages such as AutoDesk,
Microsoft Office, Blue Beam, database applications industry
specific software and other basic software programs.
Ability to communicate complex, technical material in a simple,
clear and concise manner.
PHYSICAL
The physical demands described here are representative of those
that must be met by the employee to perform successfully the
essential functions of this job.
BODY POSITIONS: -While performing the duties of this job, the
employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods of
time. -He/she may also be required to stand and/or walk for long
periods of time while completing other duties and responsibilities.
-He/she will also be required to talk and/or listen for prolonged
periods of time, both on the telephone and/or face to face.
BODY MOVEMENTS: -The employee must have a full range of body
movements including the use of his/her hands to finger, handle, and
feel objects such as computer equipment and reports. -The ability
to bend the body, to reach for objects, and to stoop, kneel or
crouch when needed is also required.
BODY SENSES: -The employee must have command of four senses: sight,
hearing, touch, and smell. Specific vision abilities required
include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the
ability to adjust focus. -These vision requirements in each area
must be sufficient for example to shift in focus from computer
screens to close forms.
STRENGTH: -The employee must have the ability to lift up to 25
pounds on occasion.
OTHER PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Evening and/or early morning and/or
weekend work may be required on an intermittent basis, to complete
reports on a timely basis or for special projects and/or meetings
and because of special hours of operation.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The majority of work will be in a climate controlled, non-smoking
office with occasional travel for work related functions. -The
normal auto and air travel hazards will apply. - Travel may be in
all types of weather including heavy rain and below freezing
temperatures with snow conditions. -Work days will typically be
8-10 hours per day but could include some early mornings and late
evenings. -This is a highly visible position, and the job requires
that the company remain in the forefront of the industry.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The responsibilities of the Draftsman include, but are not
necessarily limited to:
Create design drawings within the time frames and hours budgeted in
the Proposal.
Create designs that meet customer needs and expectations.
Knowledgeable communications with designers and co-workers.
Assuring that personal industry knowledge is current to the needs
of the company.
Assuring the enforcement of all company policies and
procedures.
DUTIES
The duties of the Draftsman include, but are not necessarily
limited to:
Create all drawings assigned to him/her within the budgeted
estimates.
Ensure all CAD drawings accurately reflect design.
Ensure that all drawings exude the quality expected from
BODEC/Bruno employees.
Accurately log all drawing time to designated project.
Maintain all past drawings in safe, secure computer files.
Backup all drawings on a regular basis and store offsite.
Any other duties the Project Engineer may assign.
MEASURE OF PERFORMANCE
Drafting projects are completed and billed at/or below budgeted
drafting time.
Drawings meet or exceed customer expectations.
Billed hours vs paid hours exceed 80%.
All drawings are backed up and secure on a regular basis.
